I am shocked to learn how cheap words have become to me. When did I become so artless in my speech? Me and my throwaway comments - I assume that no one listens, no one reads, and therefore I can afford to be cruel. If the tenet of my trade is that the choice of a single word can make a sentence, then where along the way did I forget that the choice of a single word can, likewise, break a heart? If language is the medium through which we perceive the world, then what the world must have become to me. I ought to be ashamed.
