When a man leaves his mother and a woman leaves her home.Today, my third brother tied the knot. As everyone rose to watch the bride's grand entrance, he turned to me across the aisle and went "Shit! I forgot my vows!" He apparently came to the church in a taxi. Also, I think the certificate of marriage dropped off the table and went gliding across the floor after they signed it. This was definitely not your average wedding.
I guess it turned out pretty well in the end. Despite the fact that this boy rocked up in church declaring "I don't know what's going on!", it all worked out marvellously. We took photos to commemorate this day. The last time we took a photo together was Father's Day, 2005. Now we're on the cusp of major changes, and who knows when we'll all be together again? It was hot, sticky and yet unspeakably lovely on the terrace where we had tea. This wedding turned out to be such a beautiful thing.
Okay, so I was blase about it from the start. I had my doubts about the nature of this union. I was also too frazzled running around making sure things were running perfectly to really soak in the spiritual atmosphere. But I guess on hindsight, what's more important than the flowers looking pretty, the readings being perfect and everything being in its place is that they never forget the promises they've made to each other before God. Some day, I truly hope to be as blessed.
