I wasn't planning on going tonight, but after my brother sent me an MMS at 8pm saying 'This is what you're missing', I made up my mind. I got there at 9.30pm and found my brother and his friends sprawled on a blue tarp somewhere at the back next to the technical stage. So that's how I spent an entire night, standing and sitting intermittently on a blue tarp, making occasional small talk with the person next to me. I bumped into someone I interviewed before in the Heineken queue, and had a very nice long chat with her. I didn't realise how easy it'd be, going without really knowing anyone there and just enjoying the music. I know I wanted to be able to share the experience with special people previously, but I guess when it comes down to it, it's just you and the music. It can be a personal experience just as much as it can be a shared experience. And I guess it's also good that this was what I wanted and this is what I went for. So I can say now: I did something I previously thought I was incapable of, I shoved myself out of my comfort zone for a bit, I had a good time, and now I have zero regrets. Happy new year, myself.
