Thanks to my old-time buddy Paul, I got to see Cliff Richard live in concert last night. I remember listening to his songs when I was a little kid; my mum was a fan of his music. So I jumped at the chance to go see this guy who captivated our parents' generation. Sure, Paul and I sniggered at his bum-wiggling and all the other embarrassing dance moves he attempted. It struck me when I was watching him how un-sexed the whole thing was. This guy isn't going to break sexy back, but his charm lies in the fact that for years since before skankiness sold albums, he was wowing people with his love songs. They don't write love songs like that anymore. I don't know when it became acceptable and mainstream for lust to enter the equation, but the music industry is saturated with that kind of sleaze. I don't have anything against it entirely, I just marvel at how times have changed in my lifetime - in my youth. In any case, it was an experience of a lifetime to hear this great man sing. So what if he doesn't bring sexy back. So what if he Botoxes his face and shakes his ass like a would-be sellout. Guys today would be so lucky to be that suave.
