I had a perfect Vesak Day.
1130: After a mere 7.5 hours of slumber, I get up, have lunch and watch the
Motorcycle Diaries. This show started it all. The nostalgia. You can't not feel nostalgic when a film's opening lines tell you that this is about two lives intersecting for a while, and two people sharing their dreams, their love for the open road.
1500: Audrey, Paul and I head to Queensway for an indulgent shoe shopping escapade. This is definitely what new-memory-making is about. Doing something a little out of the ordinary, departing a little from everyday occurrences.
2000: Straight after dinner, Nat and I buy cookies and eat them while we go shopping for shoes. Again.
2230: I haul out a stack of photos taken last December with a disposable camera. It's amazing how each and every photo has an extremely ephemeral quality about it. Slightly hazy, and some were just a little out of focus. Photos of the garden in the Huon Valley, a photo of Daphne posing against heart-shaped hot-air balloons graffiti-ed on a wall in Hobart, a photo of people feeding ducks in Richmond. A whole bunch of photos of my leaving party in Perth. And a few of me after I'd come home.
2350: I had it good. I wouldn't exchange any of those memories for anything, even if some of them haven't been pleasant, and others have been painful. And yes, it might be a long time before I get to live an epic life once more. But I'm still going to work towards it. I'm going to live my one lifetime in anticipation of those perfect ephemeral moments.
