When you've spent an entire weekend indoors, Bohr-ed to tears with quantum mechanics, there is nothing more uplifting than Ben & Jerry's. We have Magic Brownies, Pistachio Pistachio and Butter Pecan in our freezer; none of that chocolatey fudgey shit that everyone else seems to like. Bliss. Throw in another ten minutes of surfing the merchandise section of the Ben & Jerry's website and I am a very distracted, but happy girl.
Hannah and I spent some time this afternoon indulging our fantasies. Not of the 'who would you spend a day on an island with' variety but verging a little on the macabre: we thought about who we'd love to kill and what our famous last words to them would be. Mine went along the lines of 'take that... have a fucking nice life'. All this catharsis. I can definitely face the week ahead.

Lisa went back to Perth today. The day after someone leaves me is always the loneliest to get through. When I got an SMS from her saying she was in the village and starting to unpack the luggage which I packed for her, I felt new pangs of nostalgia. I hope she settles in good and has a wonderful semester ahead. If you read this, you know that I'm only a phone call away
anytime.
In other news I met Chloe in Siglap for tea this afternoon. Firstly I haven't had tea in Siglap in ages, and it really brought back memories of those days after school when we'd go for a drink, or when Debbie and I would head to the pool and fry ourselves as we heard planes take off in the distance. It's also been a long time since I was out in the afternoon sun, since I'm either in class or I'm holed up indoors working on assignments. It was a great pleasure seeing the rays of bright light filter through the trees--from inside the airconditioned bus of course.
And as if the company for the afternoon wasn't a blessing enough, I saw Lofty cycle by as I was on my home. I ambushed him in the beer garden (a different one this time, no longer by the drain!) He wanted to know about everyone else and what they've been doing. He asked me when I was going to visit him in Spain. We talked about how much of Crime and Punishment and Ulysses we each have read. We discussed the idea that Asians don't hug. We laughed about how we both like Beauty and the Beast but don't know why. He told me about his mother. And he laughed when I told him Psycho Mark demanded to know if I was discriminating against him for being a white male. He said I'm like that to all men. Whatever gave him that idea!
Dinner with Saf was good too. I'm taking advantage of the last few days before Lent to eat all the meat I possibly can. The best part of my day was when she gave me a lift home on her scooter. Long ago I said I'd never ride pillion. I was pretty damn scared the whole time. But it was exhilarating as well, seeing the familiar streets from a different perspective. Being literally on the road. Having the night wind whip against my body as we rounded the bend. It was so awesome. I'm going to get my own license tomorrow.
We came back to my place and got her re-acquainted with Rocky. I showed her videos of my food fights with Johann. Pictures of us on our road trip. Little things which trigger memories of the moments when we acquired them together: my quilt, my torch, bottles of wine.. I'm so thankful she shared that week with me. These memories are so plentiful, that sometimes I can't take it...
