I'm Feeling Emo and I'm Not About to Hide It

If we're on the subject of blogs' titles, then I guess mine must be pretty accurate. At one point I would have thought mine was ironic because this is supposed to be where the truth is. Not the whole truth, though. Just, as Hannah would say, moments of truth. Parts of the truth.

I come with my make-up on because this is not my life stripped bare. It is dressed up because under no circumstances will I reveal what I really feel and what I'm really thinking. Because if I did, it wouldn't be funny and amusing, and I'd be spilling my guts to too many people in a world where we compete to be better loved; and in a world where misery loves company, to have more grieving rights than our neighbour.

No one really cares (what a classic emo line!), and I understand this is often for practical rather than selfish reasons. It's okay, really. In memory of someone much loved, and to reiterate something that holds true for me as well as for everyone else, Take your burdens and your grief to the corner, and leave me alone with mine.

It seems as if I have absolutely no luck or affinity with technology. The certainty that my electronic gadgets fuck up is right up there with death and taxes. Having bought the very expensive original Microsoft Office software, I was naive enough to think that would solve all the problems my laptop was giving me, but no, after installation the laptop was making a second trip back to the repair centre. I repeated this mistake with a printer cartridge last night and spent two hours (while Desperate Housewives was on) trying to fix it up so I could print important documents. Then this morning I spent 16 precious minutes on the phone demanding why I should be charged $31.50 for a bunch of PRCs to do a recovery on my laptop when I can do it myself. They tell me as long as I back up my data, do a recovery and update my Windows my computer should be fine. But we all know Murphy's Law likes to hit you where it hurts the most, so why not wait till the maximum time and effort on my part has been put in before something drastic happens next. I fucking hate your guts TECHNOLOGY. I wish the world didn't start becoming dependent on you. I wish we still lived in caves drawing graffiti and dying young. Bitch.

It was only when I sat down at her desk, the desk where I remember making detailed notes about Valediction: Forbidding Mourning and saw the Suede badge pinned there that the feeling pummelled me. Those were better, younger and more innocent times. What a heck of a ride it's been. What a pleasure; what an honour.
