Really, time flies.

The past week saw me spending a lot more hours in school than I ever have, going blind in the media room. I have eaten truckloads of chocolate. My brain is threatening to merge the six films I have seen in the past week into one entire Hollywood epic on its own, and it better not.

The Graduate was good. Dustin Hoffman looked adorable when he was younger--do these filmstars ever watch back the stuff they made when they were young? Do they remember growing old? Was this the film that immortalised Mrs Robinson? His characters are often the scourges, and the victims of society. They struggle within themselves to find something tangible to grasp onto, and their self-loathing is transferred onto the people they love out of necessity. They are afraid to be alone with their own demons.

Carnal Knowledge probably contained the most expletives I've ever heard in a single movie. And according the imdb.com, the scene where Sandy takes out a condom was the very first time a condom was shown on screen. Probably also the first time the c-word was used in a mainstream flick. This was 1971. I think people must have been making up for lost time ever since. I don't get the whole masculine-ego-conquest-testosterone-shackup-wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am-next-please thing. Just like I don't get how people can lower themselves to backstab.

Biloxi Blues. This one was so funny, I'll probably forget stuff on purpose so I can watch it again.. but because I didn't rewind the film before returning, I guess I'd better retain the information I need. Christopher Walken is quite the enigma in the film, but all I can think about is his totally unglamorous dance routine in Fatboy Slim's Weapon of Choice video. A coming of age film that explores the less bloody side of the second World War. I must say I'm impressed.

Closer was too messed up to be beautiful, but I liked it anyway.
Mind-boggling. The first time I've ever seen Nichols do a flashback, and in an unconventional manner at that. I thought the acting flattened out towards the middle. Had Alice/Jane not realised she'd stopped loving Dan, how long more would the show have dragged on? Some double-binds are operating here. You don't want to see someone hurt, but you do it anyway. Ah, life.

It's highly likely that I'm allergic to my kitten. The kitten with no name.

And in spite of this, God is good. In fact, God is fabulous.
