Less than 72 hours and I am, in the words of 2 different has-been boybands, back for good. That's not to say it was a bad experience, because it wasn't. I did however discover that all this while, I have had a better experience right here, and I never knew it till I left. The irritations, the fighting for the bathroom, the noisy fish tanks and pulsating beats vs. the silence, the barren corridors, the feeling you get coming back to an empty room. We have a clear winner.

How fortunate I am to have discovered the difference. To know that I make a difference.

Maybe I should give up expectations once and for all. You don't have to be perfect to stake a claim on my life. You don't have to do things on my terms. You don't have to make things easy for me. And for all this, I should love you anyway, seventy seven times and more.

I surprised myself with the oddity of saying 'Happy National Day' to my American neighbour. It's my National Day. I have many memories of the 9th of August. Could this be a defining moment? Could it be in my blood?

I wonder what the people downstairs are getting so excited about. The fireworks tonight? The fact that it's been a long weekend and they've just got back with spoils of war from KL, Bangkok, wherever it's cheap and convenient to jet set to? Why all the red shirts and white shorts. Real patriotism? I'd like to know.

I have suspicions. It looks like propaganda to me, but I won't be disclosing my theories and passing them off as facts. But I'd still like to take a look inside their hearts and see what's there--maybe it will make me feel better about myself.
